Two platforms serve to expand the outdoor living space for this client - one platform was envisioned as a stage for intimate backyard performances and the other, as a viewing platform. Each space was carefully situated underneath the canopy of Coast Redwoods in this urban backyard oasis.

The clean lines of the paving in this garden are set against profuse plantings of edible and ornamental planting alike. Despite the relatively small property, spaces for outdoor dining, lounging, working, gardening, as well as enjoying a quiet moment, were all incorporated into the design. Each area flows into the other, while still feeling like a separate experience within the garden.

A fallen redwood created an opportunity for re-envisioning this outdoor space. The dining and gathering spaces are situated within the garden of ever-changing grasses and perennials. Cables overhead provide an armature for a a ceiling of grape vines and lighting overhead, adding to the ambience.

Walled courtyards create a structure within the expansive surrounding landscape overlooking the Napa Valley. The gardens overflow with profuse planting, while the spare clean lines of the disappearing edge pool and orderly paths create a sharp counterpoint to the native oak woodland beyond.
